The Source ID, model 812-OP/J, performs three functions, Source ID, Closed Caption Decoder and XDS Ratings Monitor. The 812-OP/J is a high performance Closed Caption Decoder for the NTSC system. It is capable of processing and displaying all standard line 21 closed caption format transmissions. This includes the codes specified by the FCC Report and Order on General Docket No. 91-1 and EIA-608 recommended practices for Captions, Text and XDS in field 2. There are nine standard data channels supported by the 812-OP/J, Captions 1 through 4 (CC1-CC4), Text modes 1 through 4 (T1 through T4) and Extended Data Services (XDS). The various operating modes are selectable from the menu on the monitor screen.

A complementary differential input amplifier assures high common mode rejection while its phase-linear keyer cleanly inserts decoded characters into the video image. Differential gain and phase are within 0.1% and 0.1deg. respectively. The unit's operational controls feature a rotary encoded switch for message selection with a miniature toggle switch for message on/off. The 812-OP/J operates in the SPG-812 chassis with the generator modules and auto change-over. The 812-OP/J Source ID Module performs the following functions.

As a Source ID, this unit can add up to 13 lines of alphanumeric characters (at 16 characters/line) to it's video input signal. Characters are added by using an RS-232 interface or a simple two-button front panel menu. As a Closed Caption Decoder, this unit can monitor any of the standard Line 21 data channels (CC1, CC2,XDS) and produce a decoded character output.
